PickShow Screen Saver is a screen saver utility that you can install on your Mac OS X computer. It lets you pick a folder on your hard drive, then, when your screen saver starts, it will show you all the pictures in that folder in random order. If you like, you can choose subfolders to not show (such as the ones with embarrassing photos). In addition, while the screen saver is running, you can use your keyboard to skip pictures you don't want to see, go back to ones you want to see again, move a really bad picture to the Trash, or exit the screen saver and open an interesting picture in Finder.
PickShow is designed for Macs with lots of photos in folders, like if you use Finder with Preview, Picasa, Photoshop, or Shoebox for your photos. If you mainly use iPhoto, PickShow won't work well for you. This is because iPhoto stores its pictures in one file with a proprietary format, which PickShow can't read.
I wrote PickShow because I wanted to use my HD TV as a digital picture frame for my snapshots. Because my photos are in nested folders, among which are folders I'd rather not see frequently, Apple's built-in Slideshow screen saver wasn't good for me. So I wrote my own screen saver. It doesn't have any of the fancy (and admittedly impressive) effects of Slideshow, but I don't miss them, I think because the photos stand on their own. Over the years since I got the first prototype working, my family has enjoyed surprisingly many hours watching it. I hope you enjoy it too.
PickShow Screen Saver is compatible with Mac OS version 10.5 or higher; i.e., Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion. It will not work on v10.4 or lower.
You can read details on how to use PickShow here. You can find the same doc after installing by clicking the "?" (help) button on PickShow's Options window in System Preferences.
PickShow Screen Saver is freeware - you may use it without paying any money. However, if you like it, please consider paying what it is worth to you.
